Sherrie Armstrong
President & Chief Executive Officer
Sherrie Armstrong is only the second President and CEO of the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond, which helps to lead and leverage collective action that will further develop a vibrant region where all individuals and families can prosper. Armstrong has dedicated her entire career to philanthropy and the compassionate, long-term work that is required to build stronger, more equitable communities. Prior to joining the Community Foundation in 2015, she enjoyed 26 years in various leadership roles with the United Way at the local and national level. That is where she developed her “why” – a passion for ensuring that all children have opportunities throughout their young lives, so they can achieve their full potential and build strong foundations for their own families.
Under Armstrong’s leadership, the Community Foundation has grown tremendously, in both size and impact. As an innovator, collaborator and changemaker, the Foundation recognizes the potential for real and lasting change is based on cultivating strong relationships with donors and cross-sector partners and aligning efforts to a regional goal of inclusive economic growth and opportunity for all residents.
Armstrong’s commitment to a stronger region extends to her service on several community boards including Grow Capital Jobs, Chamber RVA, The Forum Club, and 757-RVA Partnership. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in public relations from West Virginia University.
In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, live music, and traveling. She remains a faithful fan of her hometown Mountaineers.
